The Qatar National Team qualified top of Group C for the AFC Asian Cup 2019 and advanced to the next round of the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifying with two games to spare after beating Bhutan 3-0 on Tuesday in Thimphu, Bhutan.

Qatar who is the reigning Gulf champion, maintained their 100% record, winning six matches, with no draws or losses so far. Qatar has 18 points, four clear of Hong Kong, who have just one game remaining, China are on 11 points, the Maldives have 4 points and Bhutan are bottom of the group with just 3 points.

All players who took part in the qualifying campaign were largely selected from the Qatar Stars League with the exception of Akram Afif who plays his club football in Belgium.

Goals from Lekhwiya’s Mohammed Muntari (22’) and a brace from Al Sadd winger Hassan Al Haydous (36’ & 90’) helped secure Qatar’s qualification.

All players will now return back to Qatar and to their clubs as Round 9 of the Qatar Stars League recommences this weekend.
