The League’s organisers held a press conference today at Al Bidda Tower to announce amendments to the QSL fixture calendar for the first half of the season. Present at the press conference were Hamad Al Mannai, Competition Consultant, QFA, Ahmed Al Abbassi Operations Director, National Team Department, QSL Executive Director of Competitions & Football Development Ahmed Al Harmi and QSL Director of Events Hassan Al Kuwari.

Mr Al Mannai started by welcoming everyone to the press conference and explained the new changes to the calendar.

Mr Ahmed Al Harmi announced: “After careful consideration we arrived at our final decision which we are announcing today

.  However that doesn’t mean that it will not be amended further if needs be. We will start the implementation of the double-header system this season; this means we will have two matches at one stadium, one straight after the other. This is due to a very busy sports calendar this year.”

He added, “The matches for Round 3 will take place on the 26th and 27th of this month. We have also scheduled some games so as to help our National and Olympic teams as much as possible. So, for example the Al Sadd Vs. Al Ahli match will take place first during Round 3. This will give players more time to recover and be ready for national matches.”

“Round 8 coincides with the preparation camp of the National Team and Round 15 will see the Olympic Team in action. So during these weeks, the clubs should be aware that they will not have as many players to choose from. Also, the postponed game between Lekhwiya and Gharafa will be played on the 27th of October after Round 6.”

“We have also been careful to consider the prayer times so that we can accommodate this important factor too as our priority is the players and referees.”

Mr Al Kuwari then spoke about how the changes to the schedule would allow fans to see more matches with the proposed double header system.

He also said that the QSL would celebrate the coming of Eid Al Adha with free entry into ALL Round 3 matches. He added that for every person attending a match, the QSL would donate 10 Qatari Riyals to the displaced Syrian refugees.

It was also announced that from Round 4 onwards, all ticket revenue for the entire season will also be donated to Syrian Refugees in conjunction with Qatar Charity.

The Qatar Stars League, is the first professional football league in the world to donate ALL ticket revenue to aid the displaced Syrian Refugees.
