The top four teams maintained their league positions after all the QSL’s Round 14 fixtures had blown for full time, with three of the top four taking all three points and only El Jaish walking away with a point after a draw with Al Wakrah. Lekhwiya is still on top of the QSL table following their win over Muaither, as the league strugglers failed to get a shock win over the league leaders, despite boasting new local and foreign signings.

Lekhwiya overcame their missing players such as the Moroccan striker Youssef Al Arabi and the Tunisian midfielder Youssef Mesakny, demonstrating they have depth in their squad. Lekhwiya won the game by three goals to one to take them up to 36 points at the season’s halfway point, while Muaither stay on nine points and rooted to the bottom of the table.

Al Sadd succeeded in clinching a valuable and hard fought victory over Al Kharaitiyat by one goal in a very physical game to leave them with 34 points and second in the league. Al Kharaitiyat are still very much at risk of relegation with just 12 points and sitting 11th in the league.

El Jaish once again dropped two points in the race to the QSL title with their goalless draw versus Al Wakrah. El Jaish currently sit on 30 points while Al Wakrah are still struggling to generate wins and sit second last in the table with 11 points.

Al Gharafa strengthened their position among the top four teams with a crucial win over Al Ahli by two goals to nil to take them to 26 points and keep them in 4th position. Al Gharafa managed to secure all three points despite missing key players such as Kriztian Nemeth and Vladimir Weiss. Al Ahli’s league performances continue to deteriorate along with their league positon and they now sit in 9th with just 14 points.

Al Rayyan succeeded in grabbing a difficult win against Al Shahania by one goal. Al Rayyan are currently in 5th in the league with 25 points, while Al Shahania lie in 12th position with just 12 points.

Umm Salal snatched three important points by defeating Al Khor by two goals to one. Al Khor, despite the loss, performed well in the game but once again showed that they lack a serious goal scorer and pose little threat upfront. Umm Salal move up to 6th in the league with 19 points while Al Khor sit in 10th with 12 points.

Al Sailiya moved up to 8th in the league with a valuable win over Al Arabi by one goal. Al Sailiya now have 15 points while Al Arabi dropped to 7th in the league and sit on 16 points. Al Sailiya’s defensive tactics during the game ensured Al Arabi had little chances to find an equalizer.

Despite registering some very important wins, the QSL Round 14 fixtures witnessed just 12 goals, one of the lowest scoring rounds so far this season and a far cry from the 29 goals witnessed in Round 13.

Three matches ended with only one goal: Al Rayyan over Al Shahania, Al Sailiyah over Al Arabi and Al Sadd over Al Kharaitiyat, while the biggest win was Lekhwiya over Muaither by three goals to one. El Jaish and Al Wakrah witnessed no goals at all, finishing 0-0.

There was little movement regarding the league’s lead goal scorers. Lekhwiya Moroccan striker Al Arabi is still in the lead with 17 goals, followed by Al Sadd’s Algerian striker Baghdad Boundjah, noting that both players didn’t participate with their clubs in Round 14 due to joining their national teams participating in the African Cup of Nations (CAN) 2017.
