Qatar SC has been in outstanding form under their new head coach Radhi Shenaishil and they produced yet another clinical performance against Al Shahania yesterday. Shenaishil side had the lion’s share of the possession – 63 per cent and had 10 shots at goal while Shahania could muster only five.
Shenaishil had said during the pre-match press conference that he expected a tough match against Shahania but it turned out to be a pretty one sided affair.
However despite having a lot of possession, the opening goal took some time, finally arriving on the 39th minute. New defensive signing Halliche Rafik found the back of the net to give the Kings the lead as the two sides approached half time.
The teams went into the break and after the match resumed it followed a similar script as the Kings quickly took control. Qatar SC was controlling the ball and looking to attack, AlShahania on the other hand was defending resolutely as they faced wave after wave of attack.
Qatar SC could smell blood and were relentless, doubling their lead in the 56th minute through their star striker Hamdi Harbaoui. The Tunisian has now taken his tally to 15 goals this season and shares the top spot with Al Ahli’s Alain Dioko for the most goals scored this season.
After that goal, Qatar SC created more attacks but failed to find the back of the net and the match ended 2-0 to Shenaishil’s men.
This win increases the confidence of the in-form Qatar SC players who now find themselves in third spot, having played an extra game. El Jaish therefore are temporarily pushed down to 4th and will take on Lekhwiya tomorrow which will decide where the teams finish after this round of matches.
Al Shahania now has three losses in a row and will need to find their rhythm quickly to ensure that they don’t get relegated. They have 12 points from their 17 matches so far. And they have nine matches to pull themselves out of the danger zone.
