Qatar SC is experiencing a great revival under master tactician Radhi Shenaishil and the fairy tale continued after the team returned from the break to defeat Al Sailiya 2-1 with a last-gasp injury time winner.

This Qatar Stars League match was played at the Saoud bin Abdulrahman stadium and saw the Kings side burst out of the blocks and score an early goal in the 11th minute through Hamdi Harbaoui, the team’s top scorer.

The Tunisian striker is in red hot form for Qatar SC and is also currently trailing Al Ahli’s Alain Dioko by just one goal in the QSL’s top scorer’s list.

The team showed no side effects of having had their coach away for almost an entire month. Shenaishil was given permission by his club and the Qatar Football Association to coach Iraq during the recently concluded Asian Cup in Australia.

Qatar was knocked out early in the tournament but Iraq went on to claim fourth place. Shenaishil had said during the pre-match press conference that he had been receiving daily reports about his side back in Qatar and that he was monitoring the team’s progress and training.

The team certainly carried on from where they had left off at the break and were dominating the game. Sailiya, the surprise package last season, couldn’t find their rhythm and were constantly chasing the game.

But despite that they found themselves with a penalty in the 85th minute, which was converted by Fawzi Ayiesh. This gave a sense of hope that they could eke out a draw.

But it wasn’t meant to be as South Korean Cho Young Cheol found the back of the net, late into injury time (93rd), to give his team a thrilling 2-1 victory.

This win takes Qatar SC to third spot in the standings though El Jaish who are currently one place below them in the rankings could overtake them if they win their encounter against Al Arabi tomorrow.

Qatar SC have got three points in the bag and they will be happy with their solid performance. For Sailiya, it’s back to the drawing board.
