Qatar SC has strengthened their chances of a top four finish with an upset over El Jaish at the Abdulla bin Khalifa stadium.

It was Cho Young-cheol’s strike in the 78th minute which gave Qatar SC those precious three points. In their previous two matches, Qatar SC had endured a draw against Al Khor and then suffered a defeat at the hands of Al Gharafa. These results had threatened to derail Qatar SC’s plans of finishing in the top 4. Added to this was the fact that their loss had proved to be quite costly with five key players missing this match, due to cards and injuries, including their main striker Hamdi Harbaoui.

And yet head coach Radhi Shenaishil shuffled his pack and managed to play with an almost make-shift team. It was Jaish who controlled the game from the start but it was the classic case of creating chances a plenty but it just wasn’t their day.

By the end of the match, El Jaish had notched up 61 percentage of the possession. They had a whopping 735 passes compared to just 432 of Qatar SC.  Jaish had 20 shots at goal, six of which were on target but they simply couldn’t find the back of the net. In contrast, Qatar SC had just seven attempts on goal with two of them on target. The Kings taking their chance when it came.

This result means that both teams have equal points – 34 each – with Jaish getting the third spot on the table because of their superior goal difference.

More importantly for Qatar SC, they have been able to build a gap between them and the chasing pack of Al Ahli, Gharafa and Umm Salal – all of whom are vying for a top 4 finish.

Qatar SC now has breathing space and with the momentum on their side, they could very well finish in the top three, come the end of the season.
