First ever Qatar Cup win is the priority according to Wolves midfielder
Al Sadd midfielder Ali Asad believes that hard work will be crucial in his side lifting the Qatar Cup for the first time in their history. The Wolves have never lifted the Qatar Cup since its inception in 2014, and will be aiming to get to their first ever Qatar Cup final when they take on rivals Al Rayyan in the Thursday evening semi-final which is set to take place at Al Sadd stadium.
Opening up the conversation, Asad stressed the need for Al Sadd to lift the Qatar Cup this season. “The competition is very important for us, especially after losing the QSL falcon shield in a close title race. The Qatar Cup represents a new motivation for Al Sadd.”
“Losing the league title will motivate us to win the Qatar Cup title especially since it will be only two games, the semi-final versus Al Rayyan and then a final match against the winner from Lekhwiya and El Jaish” added the Qatar international midfielder.
Al Sadd have soundly beaten rivals Al Rayyan in the league this season, however despite this Asad believed that his side cannot take the former QSL champions lightly. “We have indeed defeated Al Rayyan twice this season, however things are always different in the cup competitions, and we will really have to focus if we are to reach the final.”
“We have to play with strength and spirit that we have shown in the league against Al Rayyan, our aim will be to play without any mistakes” added the 24 year old.
Assessing the competition, Asad noted that all three of the other sides could lift the Qatar Cup this season. “Lekhwiya had a good league season and won the title, Al Rayyan improved a lot in the second leg, while El Jaish deteriorated a lot recently. Still I believe that both semi-final matches will be very tough with each team will do their best to reach the final game.”
The Wolves midfielder has been ever present for his side this season, and also stressed that the Al Sadd fans will be crucial in pushing the side on to lift their first ever Qatar Cup. “The fans will be crucial for Al Sadd if we are to win the trophy. I am looking forward to seeing them against Al Rayyan on Thursday evening.”
Asad ended the conversation, insisting that his side is fully motivated to lif the prestigious Qatar Cup. “The team is fully concentrated on winning the Qatar Cup, it is considered to be one of the most important in Qatar, and we are aiming to make history by winning the trophy for the first time in Al Sadd’s history.”
