Qatar Sports Club welcomed 12th placed Al Wakrah to the Suhaim bin Hamad stadium in what was a crucial match for both sides.

Al Wakrah could still be relegated and the Kings were looking to stay in contention for the highly coveted fourth spot in the QSL, as they looked to qualify for the final spot in the Qatar Cup.

The match took an unexpected turn as the visitors went in front from a corner early on. The Al Wakrah central defender Belmaalem got the goal from close range in the 18th minute.

Then it was Qatar’s turn to get on the scoreboard when Hamdi Harboui scored his 21st goal with a thumping header from close range. The striker has now scored 21 goals in 21 matches.

With the goal from Harboui the momentum swung drastically in the home side’s favour, as the two sides battled it was the boys in yellow and black who had the better chances.

Just before the break Lassina Diaby got the all-important goal which gave Qatar Sports Club the deserved lead.  Some good work by Shaheen Ali Mahmoud down the right saw the defender send in a peach of a cross as Diaby scored almost a carbon copy of Qatar’s first goal.

The match was evenly matched as both sides had fifty percent possession but Qatar showed the most purpose and finishing in a tough match.

Qatar remains in fourth and just one point behind El Jaish.

Wakrah still dangle perilously in 12th spot with Shahania just one point behind them.
