Ooredoo Stars League runners-up Al Duhail survived a feisty encounter against Al Gharafa, winning 4-3 in penalty shoot-out in the semifinal of Qatar Cup 2025 at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on Wednesday.
The match, which ended in a goalless draw in regulation time, saw neither of the two sides breaking the deadlock even after extra time, showcasing their defensive resilience and competitive spirit.
Almoez Ali, Edmilson Junior, Benjamin Bourigeaud and Bassam Al Rawi all converted from the spot for Al Duhail to ensure Sultan Al Brake’s miss was eventually of no consequence, while Fabricio Diaz and Yacine Brahimi missed their shots for Al Gharafa, with only Joselu, Ferjani Sassi and Rabah Boussafi finding the net.
The game was a testament to the fierce rivalry between the two sides, with their 2024-2025 Ooredoo Stars League encounters ending in a 1-1 draw and a 2-0 Al Duhail victory.
The two teams had several scoring opportunities during the enthralling encounter, but none of them could convert, with both goalkeepers in splendid form with waves of impressive saves.
The Red Knights will now face league winners Al Sadd in the final to be played on May 10, 2025.
