Al Rayyan defeated Al Khor 5-1 in a thrilling match in Week 18 of the 2024-2025 season Ooredoo Stars League at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium on Friday.

Julien de Sart (10th minute), Roger Guedes (53rd minute), Mahmoud Trezeguet (61st minute), Adam Bareiro (79th minute) and Mohammed Saleh (86th minute) scored the goals for Al Rayyan in the almost one-sided encounter, while Al Khor’s only goal came through Naif Mubarak in the 67th minute.

The impressive result moved Al Rayyan’s tally to 27 points, while bottom-placed Al Khor remained rooted on seven points.

Al Rayyan got off to a dream start as they were one up by the 10th minute of play, with De Sart delivering the goods with a right-footed shot from the right side of the six-yard box after David Garcia’s header had hit the upright following a set piece situation.

Belgian De Sart almost followed it up with the second goal seven minutes later, but his attempt, this time around, posed no problem for goalkeeper Ahmed Basher to handle.

Al Rayyan’s dominance of the match was evident with each passing minute as they restricted Al Khor to doing most of the defending. At the same time, The Lions’ attackers ran riot in their opponents’ final third. Still, despite all their superiority, they could not translate their efforts into more goals as the half ended with De Sart’s earlier goal only making the difference between the two teams.

Al Khor’s Khaled Radwan’s right-footed shot from the right side of the six-yard box was saved in the 52nd minute and, a minute later, Al Rayyan doubled their lead through Guedes from an assist by substitute Trezeguet, who replaced Mohamed Surag at half-time.

Sofiane Hanni missed a great opportunity to cut the deficit for Al Khor in the 58th minute when his right-footed shot from outside the box from an assist by Abdalaziz Al Hazza flew a bit too high and, three minutes later, Trezeguet made it three for Al Rayyan, firing home after a brilliant overlapping run after being set up by Khaled Muftah.

Al Khor eventually pulled one back in the 67th minute through Naif Mubarak, firing home from a very close range following a free-kick, but any hope of the visitors taking anything away from the match was further extinguished in the 79th minute as Al Rayyan restored their three-goal lead through Bareiro, whose powerful header from the centre of the box found the back of the net without any hindrances.

The goal fest continued for Al Rayyan, with Saleh netting their fifth of the night in the 86th minute, assisted by Trezeguet, as Al Rayyan posted a convincing win over their rivals in Week 18 of the league.
