Al Duhail secured a 2-0 victory over Al Wakrah in Week 15 of the 2024-2025 season Ooredoo Stars League at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium of Al Duhail club on Friday.

Goals from Karim Boudiaf (second minute) and Michael Olunga (56th minute) solidified the league leaders’ position at the top of the standings with 35 points, while Al Wakrah’s 17 points remain unchanged.

Al Duhail were one goal up within the opening two minutes, with Boudiaf heading from very close range following a corner kick by Paulo Edmilson that had Almoez Ali inadvertently sliding the ball to the Qatari central defender to put the final nail.

Ali almost made it two for The Red Knights in the 13th minute if not for a well-timed intervention of goalkeeper Saoud Al Khater, who prevented the left-footed shot from the right side of the box, from an assist by Michael Olunga, from reaching the expected target.

Christophe Galtier’s team continued to press hard against their opponents, who were forced to do most of the defending as the first half wore on.

Ayoub Assal almost changed the narratives for Al Wakrah in the 43rd minute, but an offside put paid to what could have been an equalizer for the Blue Wave. Despite Al Wakrah's late rally in added time, Al Duhail ensured that their one-goal lead stood going into halftime.

Olunga narrowly missed an opportunity to double the lead for Al Duhail in the 49th minute when his right-footed shot from the centre of the box, following a corner kick, went just a bit too high.

Edmilson seemed to have registered his name on the scorer's sheet and doubled the lead for Al Duhail in the 51st minute after shooting home from close range following a cross by Ali, but the goal was stood down following a VAR check for offside.

Five minutes later, the undeniable second goal eventually came for Al Duhail, with Olunga finding the net following a defensive error that allowed Ali to find the Kenyan international unmarked in Al Wakrah’s final third. The Al Duhail forward thereafter wasted no time in blasting home with a right-footed shot from the centre of the box.

Suhaib Gannan was flagged offside in the 63rd minute in a situation that could have earned them a potential goal, and a stunning 25-yard shot by Aissa Laidouni went just a few inches wide in the 73rd minute as Al Wakrah went in search of at least a goal in the almost one-sided encounter.

Homam Al Ameen missed what could have been the third goal for Al Duhail in the 77th minute when a square ball by Ismail Mohammed was miscued by the left back with only an empty net to tap in.

With 10 minutes of added time, the two sides tried their best to ensure more goals, but the scoreline remained unchanged as the referee blew the final whistle.
