Al Wakrah and Al Shahania will meet in the concluding match of Week 14 of the 2024-2025 season Ooredoo Stars League at Stadium 974 on Friday, January 31, 2025. The kick-off is at 6.45pm.

The two teams will enter the match with great motivation, riding on their wins in the previous round. While Al Wakrah beat Al Arabi 4-3 in a highly-entertaining contest, Al Shahania had to rally to overcome Al Khor 2-1.

Al Wakrah regained their winning touch to take their points tally to 17 to be in seventh place in the standings with their fifth victory of this season. The Blue Wave would now look to continue their strong performances and positive results in order to advance to the top of the rankings, as happened last season.

Al Wakrah coach Poya Asbaghi realizes the importance of a win to consolidate the position of the team which recently lost in the Challenge Cup of Qatar-UAE Super Cup and to compensate by improving their domestic results in preparation to compete for one of the titles – like they did the last season by winning Qatar Cup 2024.

Meanwhile, Al Shahania, who scored an exciting victory over Al Khor after trailing for long and scoring minutes before the end of the match, will hope to continue with their strong performance against a side with a fierce attack.

Al Shahania, who have replaced coach Alvaro Mejia with Jose Murcia, will rely on a balance between defence and attack while countering the attack of the rivals and to emerge with a positive result.

Al Shahania are currently in the eighth place in the standings with 14 points, benefiting from Umm Salal’s stumble against Al Shamal to surpass them on goal difference. They will look for a victory to consolidate their position in the middle of the standings and to move further away from the danger zone.

The team will, however, be missing the services of their Italian player Francesco Antonucci as he was sent off during the last match against Al Khor.

On the other side, Al Wakrah would be counting on their most prominent players – Ricardo Gomes, Aissa Laidouni, Ayoub Assal and Hamdy Fathy among others to fire and lead the side to victory.

All pointers indicate to a strong and exciting contest between the two teams.
