Al Sadd and Al Wasl will meet in a challenging contest for the Qatar-UAE Super Shield at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium of Al Sadd Club on Saturday, January 18, 2025. The kick-off is at 7pm.
The match is part of the second edition of Qatar-UAE Super Cup and both teams would be eager to claim the prestigious title. Both sides have been gearing up strongly for the much-anticipated clash and are expected to produce a blockbuster tie.
Al Sadd qualified for the Qatar-UAE Super Shield as champions of the 2023-2024 season Qatar league, while Al Wasl made the grade having won the UAE league last season.
Al Sadd recently scored a 1-0 win over Shamal in Week 12 of the Ooredoo Stars League and that should serve the side well when they face Al Wasl on their home turf at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.
Al Wasl, meanwhile, were involved in a goalless draw against Bani Yas in the UAE ADNOC Professional League Championship.
Al Sadd are served by many professional stars including AFC Player of the Year Akram Afif and Qatar national team star Hassan Al Haydous besides Boualem Khoukhi, Brazilian duo of Giovani Henrique and Guilherme Torres, and goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham among others.
In contrast, Al Wasl’s Serbian coach Milos Milojevic has great confidence in his team which includes many distinguished players, including goalkeeper Ibrahim Issa, Fabio de Lima, Adama Diallo and Sofiane Bouftini and others.
Al Sadd had earlier met Al Wasl in the 2024-2025 season AFC Champions League Elite and the match had ended in a 1-1 draw at the Zabeel Stadium in Dubai.
The second edition of Qatar-UAE Super Cup has the participation of eight clubs – four Qatari teams and as many UAE teams, competing among themselves for four titles.
The first edition of Qatar-UAE Super Cup had seen the UAE’s Shabab Al Ahli lift the Super Shield defeating Al Duhail 2-1, while Al Arabi had claimed the Super Cup beating Sharjah FC of the UAE 1-0.
