The Week 6 matches of 2024-2024 season Ooredoo Stars League were marked by intense excitement, fierce rivalry and high levels of competition. Many matches concluded with thrilling results. Teams demonstrated significant technical prowess and exerted considerable efforts to secure points, aiming to enhance their standings prior to the international break.

During the round, a total of 26 goals were scored across six games, resulting in an average of 4.33 goals per match. Every team managed to find the back of the net and none finished the round with a clean sheet. The highest-scoring encounters were between Al Sadd and Al Gharafa as well as Al Shamal and Al Ahli, with each match yielding six goals. One match concluded in a draw, while five resulted in victories. The round also saw the issuance of 35 yellow cards alongside a single red card given to Al Arabi forward Ahmed Alaaeldin.

Additionally, this round marked the inaugural victories for both Al Arabi and Al Shahania, whereas Al Khor continued to be the only team yet to secure a win this season.

Al Shahania halted the winning streak of Al Duhail, the league leaders, by securing a victory at the conclusion of the round. This marked the first defeat for The Red Knights this season, ending their run of five consecutive wins and leaving them with a total of 15 points at the top of standings.

The gap between them and Al Ahli, the second-placed team, has now narrowed to just one point following The Brigadiers’ victory this week, which elevated their points total to 14. In the standings, Al Sadd moved up from seventh to fifth place, while Al Shahania climbed from the bottom position to tenth. Conversely, Al Khor fell to 12th place.

Three players each netted two goals – Al Wakrah’s Ricardo Gomez, Qatar SC’s Ben Malango and Pelle van Amersfoort of Al Shahania.

Regarding the standings following the sixth week, Al Duhail maintained their position at the top with 15 points, despite suffering their first defeat. Al Ahli followed closely in second place with 14 points, while Al Wakrah occupy third spot with 11 points. Umm Salal hold the fourth place with 10 points and Al Sadd are in fifth with nine points.

Al Gharafa are ranked sixth with eight points, and both Al Shamal and Al Arabi are tied for seventh and eighth respectively with seven points each. Al Rayyan are in ninth place with six points, Al Shahania in 10th with five points, Qatar SC 11th with four points and Al Khor rounded out the standings in 12th place with three points.

The round commenced with a clash between Al Arabi and Al Rayyan at the Al Thumama Stadium, where Al Arabi remarkably transformed a one-goal deficit into a two-goal win.

Tunisian player Yousef Msakni and Italian Marco Verratti found the net for Al Arabi in the 61st and 85th minutes after Moroccan Achraf Bencharki had opened the scoring for Al Rayyan in the 16th minute. Notably, Al Arabi concluded the match with 10 players following the dismissal of Ahmed Alaaeldin in the 24th minute.

In another encounter, Al Sadd returned to form by overcoming Al Gharafa, with the first half concluding in favour of the leaders by a score of three goals to one. Pedro Miguel initiated the scoring for Al Sadd in the fourth minute  followed by Cristo Gonzalez who netted the second goal in the seventh minute and Akram Afif who added the third in the 27th minute. Joselu managed to score for Al Gharafa, narrowing the gap in the 42nd minute. The second half saw Yacine Brahimi score Al Gharafa’s second goal in the 59th minute, but Hassan Al Haydous responded by securing the fourth goal for Al Sadd.

Al Wakrah secured their second consecutive victory by overcoming Al Khor. The match was marked by intense competition and rivalry as both teams vied for points, ultimately allowing Al Wakrah to claim three crucial points.

The Kings managed to earn a significant point against Umm Salal, concluding the match in a thrilling 2-2 draw. Despite Umm Salal initially taking the lead, Qatar SC striker Malango equalized in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

Al Ahli also returned to winning form, achieving their fourth victory of the season by defeating Al Shamal.

This win secured three points for Al Ahli, solidifying their position in second place.

Al Shahania successfully halted Al Duhail’s winning streak at the end of the round, earning three valuable points that elevated them to 10th place.
