Al Rayyan will host Al Wakrah in Week 5 of the 2024-2025 season Ooredoo Stars League at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium on Sunday, September 22, 2024. The kick-off is at 6pm.
Both sides will lock horns in a crucial contest with a single-minded approach of winning to get the valuable three points and to raise their positions in the rankings.
The marginal difference in the points tally of the two teams adds to the intensity of excitement and rivalry, with both eager to notch victory in bid to garner more points. Al Rayyan currently have a tally of six points being in fifth place on goal difference with Umm Salal (fourth) and Al Sadd (third), who also have the same number of points.
Al Wakrah are in seventh place on goal difference with Al Gharafa (sixth) – each of them having five points to their credit.
Al Rayyan won their Week 4 match against Al Shahania 4-2 and then played their first match of 2024-2025 AFC Champions League Elite against Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia on Tuesday at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium. The Lions went down fighting 1-3 in the exciting and strong tie, but missed out on taking advantage of some of the opportunities that came their way.
Al Wakrah, meanwhile, were edged in their Week 4 league match by Al Duhail 2-0 before playing their first match in the AFC Champions League Two against Iran’s Tractor SC in Group A at the Al Janoub Stadium on Wednesday. The hosts lost 0-3.
Despite the bumpy start for both teams in the Asian championship, Al Rayyan and Al Wakrah would strive to find winning ways in the league competition.
Both have the presence of some of the top players in all positions and the match-up is expected to provide big thrill to the fans.
