Al Wakrah scored a 3-0 win over Qatar SC in Round 4 (Group A) of the 2023-2024 season Ooredoo Cup at the Saoud bin Abdulrahman Stadium of Al Wakrah club on Sunday.

After a goalless opening half, Ayoub Assal (77th minute), Khalid Munir (89th minute) and Trent Lucas Sainsbury (90+1 minute) scored for Al Wakrah.

Qatar SC lost Badr Benoun in the 72nd minute after he was shown a red card following a tackle.

The win took The Blue Wave’s tally to six points from four matches in Group A rankings, while Qatar SC stood on four points.

Umm Salal, Al Ahli, Al Arabi and Muaither are the other teams in the group.

The contest was on an even keel till the half-time break as both sides battled hard despite the absence of some of their international players doing duty for their national teams.

With the deadlock still to be broken, the second-half action took off at a fast pace and Al Wakrah were more forceful in their attacks, but were held well by the rival defence.

Al Wakrah gained strength after Qatar SC were reduced to 10 men as Ayoub Assal produced a fine goal as he swivelled after collecting a pass on top of the inside ‘D’ to score.

Assal later ran down the right flank to provide Khalid Munir with a fine cross at the top of the box to score the team’s second goal.

Wrapping up things more authoritatively for The Blue Wave was the tall Sainsbury who latched onto a Rabeh Boussafi cross from the left to head home a perfect header.

Al Wakrah had a few close chances earlier as well while in the 84th minute a rasping Boussafi shot was well cut off by Qatar SC goalkeeper Sataa Al Abbasi.
