Al Wakrah and Al Ahli played out a 0-0 draw in Week 4 of the 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League at the Khalifa International Stadium on Monday.

Al Wakrah raised their points to five (one victory, two draws and one loss), while Al Ahli moved on to three points (3 draws and a defeat).

Al Wakrah had started their campaign by losing 0-1 to Al Arabi, but The Blue Wave pulled off a 1-1 draw with Al Rayyan in Week 2. However, Marquez Lopez’s men beat Al Khor 2-1 in the last round.

Al Ahli had played out goalless draws against Qatar SC in Week 1 and Umm Salal in Week 3. The Brigadiers, coached by Montenegrin Nebojsa Jovovic, lost 0-1 to Al Gharafa in their other match.

The match witnessed Al Wakrah’s assistant coach being given marching orders towards the end for protesting against refereeing decisions.

The game started off strongly as Al Ahli threatened the rival goal with attacks, most notably Abdulrashid Umaru’s raid in the 10th minute, but he was denied twice by Al Wakrah goalkeeper Saoud Al Khater.

Al Wakrah made their first attempt in the 17th minute when Nasser Saleh surprised the rival defence and rushed from the right side after evading players before Al Ahli’s Sofiane Bouftini intervened conceding a corner kick.

Al Ahli kept up the pressure through Hernan Perez, Umaru and Patrick Eze, but the Al Wakrah defence and goalkeeper succeeded in spoiling all their attacks.

In the second half, Al Wakrah managed to get a penalty kick in the 51st minute, but Iranian Omid Ebrahimi’s attempt was foiled by Al Ahli goalkeeper Ivanildo Rodriguez.

After Perez came close to scoring in the 72nd minute, Al Wakrah’s Algerian spearhead Mohamed Benyettou made an attempt at the goal in the 85th minute.

However, a goal did not come and the match ended goalless.
