Umm Salal coach Sergio Farias spoke to the media ahead of their 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League Week 3 match against Al Ahli.

“We will be playing for a win with a strong performance. We will fight for a victory. Our past two matches are evidence that we have been fighting well. There were some difficulties which led to a draw in the first match.

“We hope to gain a lot from our fighting performances. We played last both matches in a different way. Scoring and progressing over the opponent gives a strong indication that we are playing strong matches, which gives us the honour to compete with all the teams throughout the league.

“It is an important match and we are still studying and analyzing our opponents in order to develop an appropriate plan that could help us win the game. Our performances indicate that our team is progressing well. I am fully confident in the players’ abilities that they can deliver against Al Ahli. Hopefully, we can win points to advance,” said Farias.

Umm Salal goalkeeper Khalifa Abubakr said, “The Al Ahli match is very important and a victory must be achieved to compensate for what we lost in the first and second rounds. We have to be proactive in our attacks so we can score goals.

“We scored goals, but we should not make mistakes that we saw in the previous rounds. We have to learn our lessons fast and be stronger in the upcoming matches. The new coach’s method is different, but he helps us prepare for high intensity matches.

“Umm Salal performed well during the past two rounds and we tried to maintain our progress, but we did not win the three points.”
