The results:
Qatar SC lost to Al Sadd 1-3
Al Arabi lost to Al Duhail 1-2
Al Shamal lost to Al Sailiya 2-3
Umm Salal drew Al Khor 1-1
Al Wakrah drew Al Rayyan 1-1
Al Ahli lost to Al Gharafa 0-1
In the opening match of Week 2, holders Al Sadd overturned a deficit and beat Qatar SC 3-1 to take their points to six, having previously beaten Al Sailiya 2-0.
On the other hand, Qatar SC remained on one point that they earned from their goalless draw against Al Ahli.
Sebastian Soria (39th minute) opened the scoring for Qatar SC, but Al Sadd fought back with goals from Andre Ayew (63rd minute), Guilherme Torres (78th minute) and Baghdad Bounedjah (83rd minute).
Qatar SC put up a good performance in the first half, but the vast experience of Al Sadd players proved decisive in the second session.
In the second match, Al Duhail outperformed Al Arabi 2-1, riding on young striker Rabeh Yahya’s double in the 53rd and 66th minutes to keep their bid to regain the league shield on track.
Al Duhail had beaten Al Khor 4-1 in their opener.
Substitute Abdulqadir Ilyas pulled one back (90+4) for Al Arabi, who had defeated Al Wakrah 1-0 in Week 1.
Although Al Duhail dominated the first half, they could not score. In the second half, The Red Knights succeeded in translating their supremacy into goals. All that Al Arabi could do was scoring a last-gasp goal.
Valentin Adama (22nd minute), Driss Fettouhi (70th minute) and substitute Mohammed Mudather (73rd minute) scored for Al Sailiya, while Nasser Al Nasr (seventh minute) and captain Baha Faisal (38th-minute penalty) were Al Shamal’s scorers.
Both teams had lost their openers, Al Shamal 0-2 to Al Gharafa and Al Sailiya to Al Sadd by the same margin, so they showed determination and played eagerly to collect full points from the beginning.
The game between Umm Salal and Al Khor ended in a 1-1 draw. Ali Ferydoon (32nd minute) opened the scoring for Umm Salal and Al Khor fought back with a goal through Said Brahimi in the 70th minute.
Umm Salal had drawn 2-2 with Al Rayyan and Al Khor had lost 1-4 to Al Duhail earlier.
The Al Wakrah vs Al Rayyan face-off too ended in a 1-1 draw.
Nasser Al Yazidi (43rd minute) scored for Al Wakrah, while Al Rayyan managed to equalize through substitute Tameem Mansour Al Abdullah (90+2).
This was the second successive draw for Al Rayyan who were held 2-2 by Umm Salal in Week 1, whereas Al Wakrah had lost 0-1 to Al Arabi.
Both teams fought it out right throughout and Al Wakrah managed to go into the half time with a one-goal lead. However, Al Rayyan could draw parity in stoppage time to earn a valuable point.
Al Gharafa continued their good run with a 1-0 win over Al Ahli, with Algerian Sofiane Hanni netting the all-important goal in the 85th minute by converting a penalty, awarded for a foul on Qatar national team star Homam Al Ameen.
Al Gharafa had beaten Al Shamal 2-0, whereas Al Ahli had played out a goalless draw with Qatar SC in the first round.
