The 2021-2022 season Ooredoo Cup kicked off with Round 1 matches played at the Al Khor and Al Shamal Stadiums on 5th and 6th September, 2021.
Of the four matches (two each in Groups A and B), two games ended in draws. Qatar SC defeated Al Khor 2-1 and Al Wakrah beat Umm Salal 5-0, while the games between Al Arabi and Al Sailiya, and Al Ahli and Al Shamal both ended in 2-2 draws.
A total of 16 goals were scored in the first round. Round 2 matches will be played on 5th and 6th October after a gap of one month.
Impressive start by Al Wakrah
Al Wakrah defeated Umm Salal 5-0 in Round 1 (Group A) of the 2021-2022 season Ooredoo Cup at the Al Khor Stadium on Monday.
Saoud Al Nasr and Mohamed Benyettou did all the scoring with a hat-trick and brace respectively.
Saoud scored in the 16th, 34th and 48th minutes, and Benyettou in the second and 54th minutes.
Emergence of Al Shamal
Al Ahli and Al Shamal were locked in a 2-2 draw in Round 1 (Group A) of the 2021-2022 season Ooredoo Cup at the Al Wakrah Stadium on Monday.
Navid Mohammed (45th minute) and substitute Marko Jevtovic (87th minute) scored Al Ahli’s goals.
New recruit Jeison Medina (27th minute) and substitute Ali Awad Bujaloof (55th minute) scored for Al Shamal, who made their comeback into the First Division after a gap of six seasons. They won the Second Division League last season (2020-2021) to qualify for the top flight.
Exciting tie between Al Arabi and Al Sailiya
Al Arabi and reigning champions Al Sailiya played out a 2-2 draw in Round 1 (Group B) of the 2021-2022 season Ooredoo Cup at the Al Khor Stadium on Sunday.
Mehrdad Mohammadi (38th minute and 53rd-minute penalty) scored both goals for Al Arabi, while new recruit Valentin Adama Diomande (45+3 penalty) and Fahad Khalfan (63rd minute) scored Al Sailiya’s goals.
The opening match of the 2021-2022 season witnessed three penalties and two of them resulted in goals.
Qatar SC win
Qatar SC defeated Al Khor 2-1 in Round 1 (Group B) of the 2021-2022 season Ooredoo Cup at the Al Wakrah Stadium on Sunday.
Salmin Al Rumaihi (16th minute) and Sebastian Soria (58th minute) scored the goals for Qatar SC.
Al Khor managed to pull one back through Syed Brahimi in the 88th minute.
