Qatar Stars League (QSL) points leaders Al Rayyan on Saturday maintained their unbeaten streak this season with a convincing win over Al Gharafa while Qatar SC lifted the gloom at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium with a hard-fought victory over El Jaish.

Al Rayyan, who created QSL history with their 10th successive win last week, on Saturday crushed former champions Al Gharafa 2-0 in the second match of the double header at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium.

It was Al Rayyan's 11th successive win, the most by a QSL side in recent memory.

Earlier in the evening at the same venue, hosts Qatar SC snapped a horrendous run of form by edging second-placed El Jaish 1-0 to give coach Sebastiao Lazaroni some much-needed relief in front fans of black and yellow stripes.

In the last two weeks, Qatar SC conceded a total of 14 goals in two QSL clashes but Lazaroni’s men yesterday stopped the bleeding with an upset win against El Jaish on home soil.

For the home side, Mousa Allaq scored the winner in the 61st minute.

In the feature game of the day and the final clash in round 11, Al Rayyan relied on goals from striker Rodrigo Tabata (36) and Nathan Otavio (67) to bag three points on offer last night.

It was a feisty contest with players from both sides seen producing rough tackles and often arguing with each other in front of 6,135 fans who had turned up at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium.

The first goal of the match came in the 35th minute through their fearful forward Tabata.

The striker has been in explosive form this season, having scored 11 goals already.

Al Gharafa keeper Qasem Burhan’s weak clearance fell to striker Sebastian Soria who bustled inside the box and clipped the ball Tabata who was able to round off the 'keeper and calmly slot it home for his 12th goal of the season.

Both teams missed chances towards the end of the first half. First it was Al Rayyan’s Mohamed Juma who sent a header wide from inside the box.

At the other end, Al Gharafa’s Lawrence Quaye had his shot saved by Al Rayyan 'keeper Oumar Barry.

Despite Al Rayyan having the lead, Al Gharafa created their chances and were very much in the game.

The introduction of Alain Dioko in the 61st minute looked set to boost their chances but then a blunder from Burhan helped Al Rayyan double their advantage.

In the 66th minute, Otavio took a freekick from almost the centre of the field. He lobbed it towards the goal and Burhan - who initially came ahead to collect the ball - could only watch helplessly as the ball sailed over his head and into the goal.

Two minutes later, Al Gharafa could have reduced the deficit but Anderson Martins’ shot ended up skimming off the post.

Al Rayyan now have 33 points from 11 games while second-placed El Jaish have 23 points. Al Sadd - who lost on Friday - have a tally of
21 points.

Earlier on Saturday, a spirited Qatar SC bounced back from recent heavy defeats to beat second-placed El Jaish and severely dent the Soldiers’ title hopes.

The Kings triumphed 1-0 at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium to grab only their second victory of the season.

For El Jaish it was a second defeat in two matches after last week’s
2-1 reverse against points leaders Al Rayyan.

Mousa Allaq scored the winner for Qatar SC, who had conceded 14 goals in their previous two matches.

El Jaish were left to regret not going in front in the first half when they had the lion’s share of possession. Abderrazak Hamdallah almost broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute, but his swept effort was cleared off the line by Mohamed Al Robeai.

The visitors had another chance five minutes later. Rashidov hit a free-kick which bobbled before being parried by Mubarak. Magid Mohammed tried to score from the rebound, but Mubarak forced the forward to fire wide.

Qatar SC wasted two good chances just before the break. Mouhcine Iajour should have done better from inside the six-yard area, while Ali Al Mohannadi was left frustrated after firing straight at Khalifa Abo Baker when clean through on goal.

Those missed chances were forgotten in the second half though when Allaq pounced to the delight of Lazaroni and the Kings’ faithful. The goal final lifted the gloom in Qatar SC camp.

Qatar SC now have a tally of 7 points from 11 matches. Lazaroni's men are just one slot above bottom-placed Mesaimeer in the points standings.
