Umm Salal and Al Wakrah were locked in a 0-0 draw in Week 15 of the 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League at the Qatar SC Stadium on Tuesday.
Umm Salal and Al Wakrah raised their tally to nine and 19 points respectively.
The match saw Umm Salal miss a penalty kick in the 54th minute.
Al Wakrah, under Spaniard Marquez Lopez, had in the past three weeks lost to Al Duhail, Al Gharafa and Qatar SC, and looked to make a strong comeback into the league championship.
On the other hand, Umm Salal, who had played out a 1-1 draw with Al Sailiya in the previous round and sought a new start for them in the league under their new Moroccan coach Talal El Karkouri, failed in their bid to snatch full points.
The Orange Fortress thus stayed at the bottom of the table with nine points, on goal difference from Al Sailiya.
Al Wakrah had opportunities to snatch the three points, but they proved to be ineffective unable to reach the target.
Al Wakrah’s young goalkeeper Omair Al Sayed guarded his citadel with elan, saving many attempts including a penalty kick taken by Portuguese Joao Teixeira.
The Blue Wave excelled and dominated the course of the game, and launched successive attacks across the sides, especially the right through Murad Naji, who made a great effort and needed only some focus, just as his two colleagues, Mohamed Benyettou and Jacinto Dala, who too could not be successful in taking advantage of the chances that came their way.
At the other end, Umm Salal mostly resorted to defence, especially in the first half, to contain the pressure from the rivals and relied on counter-attacks.
