Qatar SC beat Al Sailiya 2-1 in Week 9 of the 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League at the Al Khor Stadium on Thursday.
Javi Martinez (eighth minute) and Bashar Resan (49th minute) scored for Qatar SC. Substitute Ramin Rezaeian pulled one back for Al Sailiya in the 80th minute.
Qatar SC moved on to nine points with their second victory. Al Sailiya remained on five points.
Qatar SC, who lost 1-2 to Al Duhail in the previous round, made amends and improved their ranking. Above all, the victory, their first under Moroccan coach Youssef Safri who was their player, helped boost the team’s morale.
The defeat meant Al Sailiya are now in a precarious position (they are second last in the table only above Al Khor) as the QNB Stars League heads for a break.
However, The Kings made more attacks despite the absence of forwards Youcef Belaili as well as Sebastian Soria and had an early advantage, which they capitalized on with a goal either side of half-time even though Al Sailiya managed to score a goal late into the game.
Initially, Bashar and Salmin Al Rumaihi were at the forefront of Qatar SC’s attacks, while Fahad Khalfan, with support from Ahmed Sebaie and Driss Fettouhi, led Al Sailiya’s charge.
Al Sailiya started the second half by bringing in Mohammed Salah El Neel in place of Fahad Khalfan though the rivals doubled the lead before long.
The Peregrines then sent in Ramin in the 64th minute and that helped them reduce the margin.
Al Sailiya threw their everything in the closing minutes in search of an equaliser that never came.
Defender Serigne Mbodji’s lob over the Qatar SC defensive wall was not met by El Neel and Ramin in front of the goal in the 89th minute.
In stoppage time, Mbodji headed Ali Jasemi’s corner straight to goalkeeper Jassim Al Hail.
