Al Gharafa defeated Al Shamal 3-2 in Week 12 of the 2021-2022 season QNB Stars League at the Al Ahli Stadium on Monday.

Amro Seraj (41st minute), Gabriel Peres (78th minute) and Sofiane Hanni (81st minute) scored the goals for Al Gharafa.

For Al Shamal, Jeison Escobar (35th minute) and Amjad Atwan (90+3) found the target.

Al Gharafa thus continued their winning streak, having beaten Al Sailiya in Week 11, and raised their points tally to 22.

On the other hand, promoted side Al Shamal woes compounded as they remained on nine points.

The match was exciting and Al Shamal were the first to take the lead through Escobar following a defensive error by Homam Al Ameen and the Colombian professional beat Yousef Hassan below the bar.

Al Gharafa did not have to wait for long to equalize as Seraj gave finishing touch to a move that also involved Othman Al Yahri and Ahmed Al Janehi.

In the second half, Al Gharafa were in greater focus and pressed hard through the flanks and the middle. They raided the Al Shamal goal, but goalkeeper Marwan Sharif stood firm in front of attacks by Hanni and Ahmed Alaelddin.

Meanwhile, Al Gharafa managed to score again through Brazilian Perez’s header.

Soon came their third goal through Hanni, again a header, with Perez assisting him.

Al Shamal tried hard and were rewarded with a late goal through Iraqi recruit Atwan deep into stoppage time. And that was all they could do as Al Gharafa emerged as the winners.
