Thrilling contests marked Week 11 matches of the 2023-2024 season Ooredoo Stars League played on Saturday and Sunday (December 7 and 8, 2024). The matchups produced challenging battles, full of rivalry and surprises.

As many as five matches ended in victories, while only one match ended in a draw - between Al Ahli and Al Sadd. The round also witnessed Al Khor’s first win of the season and Al Shamal’s continued brilliance.

Al Ahli drew Al Sadd 2-2

Qatar SC lost to Al Rayyan 1-2

Al Duhail lost to Al Khor 1-2

Al Shahania lost to Al Gharafa 2-4

Al Wakrah lost to Al Shamal 0-3

Al Arabi lost to Umm Salal 0-3

The round saw 22 goals being scored at an average of 3.66 goals per match. Al Gharafa scored the biggest-margin win (4-2) against Al Shahania. Al Khor also experienced their first win this season in the league as they beat Al Duhail, while Al Shamal and Umm Salal kept clean sheets.

Baghdad Bounedjah tops the scorers’ list with 11 goals, followed by Rafa Mujica, Akram Afif, Michael Olunga and Roger Guedes with eight goals each.

In the standings, Al Duhail maintain their lead at the top with 25 points despite their second loss in the league, while Al Sadd and Al Ahli after a tie remain in the same position - in second and third place respectively, each with 22 points. Al Gharafa are in fourth place with 21 points after their victory over Al Shahania.

Al Shamal, meanwhile, advanced to fifth place after their victory over Al Wakrah, raising their tally to 16 points. Umm Salal have moved up to sixth place with a tally of 14 points after surpassing Al Arabi and regaining winning touch in the first match under new Spanish coach Pablo Machin.

With the same number of points (14), Al Wakrah are seventh on goal difference after they lost to Al Shamal by three goals.

Al Rayyan are in eighth place with 13 points after their win over Qatar SC, followed by Al Shahania in ninth with 11 points after their loss to Al Gharafa.

Al Arabi are in 10th place with 10 points, equal to that of Qatar SC - in the penultimate place, while Al Khor are in twelfth place with seven points.

In the opening match of the round, Al Ahli and Al Sadd tied played out a 2-2 draw. Akram Afif scored for Al Sadd in the 13th and 59th minutes while Julian Draxler scored for Al Ahli in the 45+3 and 52nd minutes.

In the second match, Al Khor achieved their first victory of the season in the league and in an emphatic manner as they prevailed over Al Duhail in a strong and exciting match. Captain Ahmad Hassan Al Mohannadi scored for Al Khor in the 41st minute and Portuguese defender Ruben Semedo in the 47th minute, while Edmilson Junior scored for Al Duhail in the 72nd minute.

Al Rayyan regained their winning touch against Qatar SC whom they beat 2-1. Roger Guedes and Mahmoud Hassan ‘Trezeguet’ scored for Al Rayyan in the sixth and 42nd minute respectively while Ahmed Abdel Kader scored for Qatar SC in the 64th minute.

Al Shamal continued their winning run with 3-0 win over Al Wakrah, scoring through Baghdad Bounedjah, Mohammed Omar and Suhaib Gannan in the 25th, 45th and 90+7 minutes.

Al Gharafa achieved an important 4-2 victory over Al Shahania. The goals for Al Gharafa were scored by Romanian Florinel Coman in the 19th minute, Spanish Marc Muniesa – the Al Shahania defender’s own goal in the 66th minute and Tunisian Ferjani Sassi, who scored two goals in the 70th and 90+4 minutes. The goals for Al Shahania were scored by their Dutch striker Pelle van Amersfoort in the 76th minute and Lotfi Madjer in 90+2 minute.

The closing match of the round saw Umm Salal overcome their loss in the previous round to Al Ahli as they returned to winning ways by beating Al Arabi 3-0. Umm Salal’s goals were scored by Kenji Gorre, Antonio Mance and Oussama Tannane in the fourth, 27th and 38th minute respectively.
