Al Wakrah coach Marquez Lopez spoke to the media ahead of their 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League Week 17 match against Al Ahli.
“During the period of preparation for this game, we tried to show the highest levels of concentration with the aim of winning and seeking to return to the top four, and I hope that we will be successful in this important meeting.
“I think there are four clubs currently competing for fourth place, which are Al Gharafa, Al Ahli and Qatar SC in addition to Al Wakrah, given that there are three other clubs competing for the title, namely Al Duhail and Al Arabi, and behind them Al Sadd.
“The list of injured players has shrunk in the recent period and we no longer have any injured except Australian defender Trent Sainsbury and Iranian Omid Ebrahimi, who participated in the last training session and may be present during the match,” said Marquez.
Al Wakrah player Nabil Irfan said, “The three days preceding our match against Al Ahli witnessed a great concentration of all members of the team. The players have a great desire to win.
“In the last match, we presented good levels and the team regained its luster to a large extent, and I hope that we will continue at the same pace because it is this strong performance that will help improve results. This will only be achieved with the right mentality and the right focus as well as consistency in the level during all matches.
“The opportunity to finish the season in the top four depends on us as players, because we must have the mentality that helps us achieve this goal and realize that we have the ability to achieve it. At the same time, we know that the task is not easy and requires double efforts, whether in training or in matches.”
