The 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League’s Week 14 witnessed action in abundance as the race between the teams to surge ahead hotted up.

THE RESULTS

Al Duhail bt Al Markhiya      3-1

Al Sailiya drew Umm Salal     1-1

Al Ahli lost to Al Rayyan       0-4

Al Arabi bt Al Shamal  1-0

Al Wakrah lost to Qatar SC   1-2

Al Gharafa lost to Al Sadd     1-3

As many as 18 goals were scored during the round, which witnessed five victories and one draw.

Al Rayyan and Al Arabi kept clean sheets, while two red cards were issued – Al Ahli’s Mohammed Al Ishaq and Al Wakrah’s Hazem Ahmed.

A penalty kick was awarded and Al Rayyan’s Ivorian striker Yohan Boli converted it against Al Ahli.

Two players succeeded in scoring two goals each – Boli and Al Sadd striker Baghdad Bounedjah, against Al Gharafa.

The competition intensified in the top four, with Al Arabi, reigning champions Al Sadd and Qatar SC closing in on leaders Al Duhail. Same was the case in the bottom half, with teams striving hard to stay away from the danger zone.

Al Duhail achieved their sixth successive victory after the long break with a 3-1, comeback victory against Al Markhiya. After being down by a goal, The Red Knights bounced back and scored all three of their goals inside five minutes.

Al Duhail moved on to 32 points, while Al Markhiya stood on 12 points in eighth place following their fifth loss.

After losing Qatar Cup 2023 semifinal to Al Sadd, Al Arabi got back to the winning path by defeating Al Shamal with the help of goal from Syrian striker Omar Al Somah, who became second joint top scorer with Al Wakrah’s Jacinto Dala, with nine goals each. Al Duhail’s Kenyan striker Michael Olunga leads the list with 10 goals.

Al Arabi raised their tally to 28 points in second place, while Al Shamal slipped one place to 10th with 10 points.

Al Sadd’s 3-1 win over Al Gharafa helped them retain the third place with 22 points, while the latter remained in fifth place with 19 points.

After losing in Week 13, Al Rayyan and Qatar SC got back to winning ways by beating Al Ahli (4-0) and Al Wakrah (2-1) respectively.

Al Rayyan moved one place up to ninth with 11 points, while Al Ahli stood in seventh spot with 17 points.

.Qatar SC remained in fourth position with 22 points, the same number of points as Al Sadd but placed behind on goal difference, whereas Al Wakrah stood in sixth place with 18 points..

In the other fixture, Al Sailiya and Umm Salal played out a 1-1 draw, a result that did not benefit either side and they stood 11th and 12th respectively in the standings with eight points.

List of scorers

Olunga topped the list with 10 goals after scoring a goal against Al Markhiya.

Al Somah tied with Dala in second place with nine goals.

Boli is third with eight goals. They are followed by Al Arabi’s Yousef Msakni and Bounedjah with seven goals.
