Al Shamal’s 21-year-old Mohammed Omar starred with a goal and an assist as the side beat Al Ahli 2-0 in their opening match of 2025-2026 Doha Bank Stars League at the Khalifa International Stadium on Thursday.

Omar scored in the 88th minute while Mohamed Manai struck earlier in the 40th minute with a fine side flick. It was a delightful first win of the new season for Al Shamal, who had finished sixth in the previous season while Al Ahli were fourth.

Mohammed Omar was also named Man of the Match.

Al Ahli had their moments but were not forceful enough. An in-dipping free-kick from Julian Draxler was cut off by Al Shamal goalkeeper Babacar Seck in the 68th minute, who had a good evening under the bar.
