Al Wakrah beat Muaither 3-0 in Round 3 (Group A) of the 2023-2024 season Ooredoo Cup at the Grand Hamad Stadium of Al Arabi club on Sunday.

The convincing win was The Blue Wave’s first in the tournament this season following two losses, while Muaither are still without a point.

Umm Salal, Al Arabi, Al Ahli and Qatar SC are the other teams in Group A.

The goals for Al Wakrah were scored by Khaled Munir (sixth minute), Ibrahim Al Sadiq (63rd minute) and Fayez Al Farsi (90+5 minute).

All goals were well-co-ordinated and each of the strikes left a fighting Muaither hapless.

Al Wakrah struck early, with Rabeh Boussafi sending down a fine cross from the left to an unmarked Nasser Saleh Al Yazidi, but his quick deflection was stopped by the goalkeeper. The ball, however, ricocheted and Khaled Munir ran in to do the scoring.

The second goal was following a free-kick taken by Boussafi from five yards outside the left of the box and the ball landed perfectly for Al Sadiq to make a perfect interception to beat the goalkeeper on his left.

For Muaither, their two best chances went abegging – first in the 52nd minute when Abdulghani Mazeed got a fine pass from Guy Mbenza and only the goalkeeper to beat, but the quick action saw his shot go on to hit the outside of the right post.

They hit the post again in the 66th minute – this time on the top left – after a free-kick. Mazeed, who took the kick, beat a four-man wall and Jamal Hamed rushed in to the ball and took the shot, but got the barrier.

Al Wakrah added more to their joy in the final moments of added time as substitute Mohamed Benyettou produced a fine lob from inside right of the ‘D’ for Al Farsi to make a fine header and a delightful 3-0 result.
