Al Shamal signed off their 2024-2025 season Ooredoo Stars League with a 1-0 win over Al Wakrah in the 22nd and final week at the Al Bayt Stadium on Friday.
Mohammed Omar scored for Al Shamal in the 51st minute, while Farid Boulaya missed a penalty kick for Al Wakrah in the 87th minute.
Al Shamal finished the season in sixth place with 32 points, while Al Wakrah ended up eighth with 25 points.
Al Shamal broke the deadlock after a fine run from the left, with Baghdad Bounedjah providing a fine pass inside the box for Omar who was in front of the goal. Omar made the most of it as he put the ball into the net.
For his part, Bounedjah ended up as the league’s second best scorer with 18 goals along with Al Sadd’s Akram Afif and Rafa Mujica. Al Rayyan’s Roger Guedes is the top scorer with 21 goals.
Al Wakrah had a great chance of equalizing late in the second session when they won a spot kick. But Boulaya kicked the ball far left past the post, much to his teammates and the fans’ dismay.
Al Wakrah tried to make amends in the nine added minutes of stoppage time, but could not force the issue.
