Al Rayyan and Qatar SC played out a 2-2 draw in Round 4 (Group A) of the 2024-2025 season QSL Cup at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium of Al Duhail club on Friday.

Roger Guedes (60th minute) and Rodrigo Tabata (85th minute) scored for Al Rayyan, while Qatar SC got their goals through Ben Malango (64th minute) and Ali Awad (73rd minute).

With the result, The Lions now have seven points, while Qatar SC, who are yet to record a win, are on two.

There was not much difference between the two teams in the way of attacking and defending for the first 20 minutes as they both seemed evenly matched.

Al Rayyan lost an opportunity to take the lead in the 44th minute after Guedes shot straight at goalkeeper Motasem Al Bustami from the penalty spot after they were handed the golden chance earlier on after Gabriel Pereira was adjudged to have been brought down by Qatar SC’s Abdallah Al Muftah in the final third.

The miss was the major highlight of the half, with the match stalemated going into half-time break.

Al Rayyan came out stronger in the second half with their sublime attacking play, but despite their constant waves of attack against their opponents, they, however, had to wait until the 60th minute when Guedes lashed on a rebound from Pereira’s shot, following a one-two play in Qatar SC’s final third, to open the scoring in the thrilling encounter.

Three minutes later, Malango returned the favours for Qatar SC after he rose highest to connect an overhead cross by Ibrahim Majed with a powerful header to give The Kings their deserved equaliser.

By the 73rd minute, Qatar SC had gone from a goal deficit to a goal lead with substitute Awad, who replaced Sebastian Soria, finding the back of the net with a right-angle low-driven shot that went right past the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Fahad Younis.

With Al Rayyan heading to a seeming loss, Tabata, who came in as a substitute, turned back the hand of the clock as he fired home the equaliser in the 85th minute, ensuring a no-victor, no vanquished outcome.
