Al Duhail play Saudi Arabia’s Al Taawoun in the fifth round of their 2022 AFC Champions League campaign in Group D on Friday, 22nd April. The match will kick off at 23:15 at the King Abdullah Sport City Stadium in Buraidah.
Al Duhail are leading Group D with nine points (three victories and one loss), while Al Taawoun (two victories, one draw and a defeat) are second with seven points. They are followed by Sepahan (four points) and Pakhtakor (three points).
Al Duhail had lost their opener 1-2 to Al Taawoun, but made a strong comeback by beating Iran’s Sepahan 1-0 in the second round.
The Red Knights then beat Pakhtakor 3-2 and 3-0 in back-to-back matches, in the third and fourth rounds.
Al Duhail, under Argentinian great Hernan Crespo, will be keen to sustain the momentum and maintain the top spot in the group.
Al Duhail have players of great calibre, such as Michael Olunga, Edmilson Junior, Nam Tae-Hee and Almoez Ali, and they will look to make up for their loss to Al Taawoun in the first round.
The top team from each group will qualify for the Round of 16 along with the three best second-placed teams from the five West Asia groups.
