Omar Al Somah of Al Arabi, on a loan deal from Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli, is one of the most prominent faces to join QNB Stars League in the 2022-2023 season.
The tall Syrian striker has made tremendous achievements on the Gulf and Asian football scene in the recent years, and Al Arabi fans were more delighted when they signed him to spearhead their challenge in the new season, especially after the departure of Gabonese Aaron Boupendza.
Al Arabi have had a strong start in this season’s QNB Stars League as The Dream Team won their first three matches to top the table with nine points.
Against this backdrop, Omar spoke to Qatar Stars League website in an Exclusive Interview, on the sidelines of 2022-2023 season Media Day.
Excerpts:
At the outset, we welcome you to this interview. What’re your views on the QNB Stars League?
I’m very happy that I find myself in a very good football atmosphere in Qatar. To be honest, I wasn’t following Qatar football a lot before I joined the Al Arabi ranks. I’m delighted to see the professional organization, excellent facilities and high standards.
How do you feel like representing the Al Arabi club, which has a rich tradition, big reputation and huge fan following?
I consider it as an honour to be donning the Al Arabi jersey and playing in Qatar. I hope to contribute my share to my club and Qatar football in general. I want to do my best towards fulfilling that goal.
Al Arabi have had a strong start in this season’s QNB Stars League. Do you expect to help the club win a major title after a long period of time?
Thank God, we’ve had a very good start. The team has the potential to continue in the same way. All matches are difficult, there’s no weak team in the league. We play to win all games and we’ve respect for all teams.
How do you think you can add value to the team?
I’m a professional player, I’ll give my all to the clubs which I represent. We’ve a good team, good players and a good coach (Younes Ali). We’ve to keep working hard and hopefully more and more positive results will come our way.
What’re your takes on the team composition of Al Arabi this season?
As I see it, the team composition is good. We’ve a good balance in the squad. I believe this team is capable of achieving a good finish in the league this season.
What’re your targets, with the team and also as an individual player?
My primary target is to do well with the team. Of course, I’ve individual targets, I like to score as many goals as possible. That’s my duty as a striker.
How do you look forward to Qatar hosting the Arab world’s first-ever FIFA World Cup?
I expect an amazing organization by Qatar and I believe it’ll be the best-ever edition of the FIFA World Cup. I’m pleased with the outstanding facilities here and I see huge possibilities as the outcome of the tournament.
