Al Ahli scored a 2-1 win over Al Sailiya in Week 9 of the 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League at the Al Ahli Stadium on Thursday to move into the top four of the standings.

The goals for Al Ahli were scored by Oumar Sekou (38th minute) and Sofiane Hanni (62nd minute) before Mehrdad Mohammadi pulled one back for Al Sailiya towards the end from a penalty (90+3).

Al Ahli and Qatar SC are both on 13 points, but the former were placed ahead on better goal difference. Qatar SC, however, still have a postponed match against reigning champions Al Sadd to play.

Al Sailiya remained at the 12th place after suffering a seventh loss of the season and having four points.

Al Ahli took command pretty early into the match and succeeded in producing a fine goal which came through a combined effort.

The attack from the right involved Abdulrasheed Ibrahim who crossed the ball to Yazan Al Naimat in the middle, who smartly sent it across to the left for an unmarked Oumar to score.

Al Ahli had another chance five minutes later, but it went abegging as Jassim Omer kicked wide.

In the second half, Al Ahli continued to hold sway and Hanni made the most of a frantic defensive attempt to lunge ahead and strike another goal past the hour mark.

Al Sailiya tried hard to regroup and make forays, but could succeed only towards the end when Mohammadi was fouled by Mohammed Al Ishaq, fetching The Peregrines the spot-kick.
