Our featured match this Round sees a bottom of the table clash between Al Khor and Qatar Sports Club (QSC). Although it might be a scrappy affair the match will be of interest as QSC is now under new management with Sebastião Lazaroni at the helm.
With both teams prone to mistakes this season and desperate for the three points, Friday’s match at Lekhwiya stadium at 18:30 proves to be an enticing match.
The Brazilian tactician Lazaroni is no stranger to the club having coached the Kings for six years previously. He has been brought back in after Radhi Shenaishil failed to win a single match at the start of the season.
Last year Qatar Sports Club positively flourished under Shenaishil’s tutelage as they finished fourth in the league but bizarrely this year the Kings have failed to come to life.
In the last six games they have lost four times, drawn once and in the last Round against Mesaimeer they finally picked up their first three points of the season (2-0).
What’s more perplexing is that over the summer QSC brought in Mouhcine Iajour to bolster their attacking threat. However last season’s second top scorer Hamdi Harboui and the former failed to gel for the Kings and very few goals were registered with both men on the pitch.
With Hamdi Harboui on his way out and a new Head Coach Lazaroni left to pick up the pieces, the away match against Al Khor takes on more significance as QSC look to get back on track and swiftly move out of the relegation zone.
Al Khor too have struggled this season but this was less surprising as last year they also had a poor start and finished just 10th in the table.
Al Khor is the only team going into Round 8 having not won a single match so far this season. Head Coach Jean Fernandez will be feeling the pressure and will know that perhaps this is the most opportune time to play QSC who are transitioning to new Head Coach Lazaroni.
