Muaither relegated after Al Sailya draw

Muaither were formally relegated to the Qatar Gas League on Saturday evening, despite securing a battling 1-1 draw with Al Sailiya. Results went against Phillipe Birol’s side, meaning that the Stallions are sent straight back to the Qatar Gas League after one season in the QSL.

Against the run of play, Muaither grabbed the lead in the 5th minute when Iranian international Ahmed Yasin scored a spectacular curling shot which was too much for Sailiya keeper Gregory Gomis. Sailiya quickly registered their first chance of note In the 10th minute, Al Sailiya’s Romanian midfielder Valentin Lazăr curled in a well-taken free-kick but the ball narrowly missed the far goalpost.

At the half-hour mark, Al Sailiya produced the equaliser from the penalty spot .Uzbekistan international Temurkhuja Abdukholiqov stepped up for his side and wrong footed Muaither goalkeeper Basel Zaidan who dove to his left, for his fifth goal of the season.

Neither side managed to score in the remaining time of the second half though Al Sailiya defender Rami Fayez was sent off for picking up two yellow cards in the game in the 84th minute. The point was not enough for the Stallions who have been relegated to the Qatar Gas League with two games of the season left to play.
