Al Wakrah relegated to the Qatar Gas League after Khor defeat

Al Wakrah confirmed their relegation to the Qatar Gas League with a 2-0 defeat to Al Khor on Saturday evening. Jean Fernandez’s side proved to be too strong for Wakrah, and goals in either half confirmed the inevitable for the Blue Waves.

Madson took the all important lead for Al Khor in the thirty seventh minute. The diminutive forward made a smart turn and smashed the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal with a left footed strike. Al Khor had most of the ball in the first half and made the most of their chances.

Whilst for Al Wakrah they were unfortunate not be able to score a goal despite having some clear chances especially when Moroccan midfielder Mouhcine Moutouali sent the ball wide when he was one on one with the keeper.

In the sixty seventh minute it looked like Maher Yousef was going to equalise for Wakrah. However, after a brilliant counterattacking run and finding himself in front of goal with just the keeper to beat he sent his shot wide off the target.

Al Khor made Wakrah to rue their missed chances when Jean Fernandez's men added a second goal to make matters worse for Al Wakrah. Madson got himself an assist as his pass from the half way line found an unmarked Mouhcine Iajour, who ran with the ball towards the box and played it round the keeper, Hassan Idris, before sending it into the net.

Wakrah’s 14th defeat of the domestic season means that the Blue Waves will start the 2017/2018 domestic season in the Qatar Gas League.
