Al Ain score at the death to deny El Jaish
QSL side El Jaish fell to a 3-1 defeat to UAE Pro League side Al Ain in the semifinal first leg of the AFC Champions League on Tuesday evening.
The soldiers fought their way back into the clash with a vital away goal, before Brazilian attacker Caio struck in the final minute of the clash to confirm the win for Zlatko Dalić’s side.
Ain started the tie on the front foot and took the lead on the 16th minute. UAE international midfielder Omar Abdulrahman flicked a back post cross to Brazilian attacker Douglas who nodded in from close range.
Abdulrahman, who enjoyed a fine game in the center of the park, doubled his side’s advantage just five minutes later with a sublime free kick which beat Jaish keeper Khalifa Ababacar. Jaish struggled to find their feet in the first half, but did register their first chance of note on the stroke of half time with a thunderous freekick from Romarinho clipping the cross bar.
After the break, El Jaish pushed on to find a vital away goal in the tie. Sabri Lamouchi’s side where duly rewarded on the 51st minute when the referee pointed to the penalty spot, after Isamil Ahmad handled the ball in the penalty area.
Uzbekistan international Sardor Rashidov made no mistake from the penalty spot to give his side a lifeline in the clash. Jaish pushed hard in the second half to find an equalizer, and on the balance of play should have had one. However in injury time Omar Abdulrahman’s ball into the centre was fumbled by Jaish keeper Ababacar and Caio converted from close range, to give Al Ain a 3-1 victory going into the second leg.
