Lekhwiya head coach Michael Laudrup picked up his third manager of the month award this season for the month of March. The decision was made by the QSL Football Development department who presented him with the award at the club’s training ground.

Laudrup’s side has been unbeaten in the month of March notching three wins & a draw.  The month started with a tense 1-0 victory against Al Kharaitiyat, a game in which the Red Knights dominated with 63% match possession.

A draw against a resurgent Al Wakrah side, followed in round 21. With the Cops conceding a last gasp penalty equalizer in the 92nd minute of the tie. A 2-1 victory against the ten men of Umm Salal followed with Lekhwiya’s winner coming on the counter attack courtesy of Slovakian international Vladimir Weiss. 

The month was rounded off with a convincing 3-1 victory against Al Arabi, with Lekhwiya achieving victory with ten men after striker Sebastian Soria was shown a red card in the second half.

Lekhwiya grabbed ten points out of a possible twelve in March and have dominated possession statistics for the QSL, which have been provided by Prozone, the QSL’s preferred statistical partner.

The Red Knights have dominated the average amount of possession in the league in the month of March. Controlling possession of the ball an average of 577 times, typifying this possession game  the team has also had an average of 428 touches per match.

This domineering style has meant an average 53.8% possession in matches, as Lekhwiya look to retain their QSL crown. Which will be Laudrup’s first title for the side he took charge of in the summer of 2014.

Grinding out important victories have been the hall marks of this Lekhwiya side in the month of March, especially when title rivals Al Sadd faltered. This unbeaten streak has now all but assured Lekhwiya their fourth QSL league title. They will be looking to confirm their status as Champions with a victory at home to Al Shahania in round 24 of the QSL.
