Defending champions Lekhwiya earned a 1-0 victory over Al Kharaitiyat to continue in their close pursuit of current league leaders Al Sadd.
The Thunders had gone into the game with some good form after beating Umm Salal 1-0 and drawing with Al Arabi 0-0 the week before. Lekhwiya for their part had come unstuck against a unyielding Al Sadd side that put three past them in round 6.
The game itself was played at a slow tempo and neither side could break the deadlock in the first half.
In the second half both teams had a number of chances but neither side could take advantage as the minutes ticked by.
Then, in dramatic fashion the Red Knights clinched the winner in the 89th minute courtesy of Nam Tae-Hee. The forward received the ball from Weiss in a central position on the edge of the box; the crafty Korean moved the ball onto his left as he shaped to shoot but then dragged it back onto his right to make space for the shot.
His effort squeezed past the defense and into the bottom left corner as his team mates mobbed him and celebrated a tough away win at the Al Khor stadium.
The Champions are now just a point behind Al Sadd, who are on top of the table with 19 points from seven matches.
