QSL side Lekhwiya drew with Uzbek side Bunyodkor 0-0 in the AFC Champions League on Wednesday evening. The result was of little significance for the Red Knights who had already assured qualification to the round of 16.

Djamel Belmadi fielded a weakened side, without the likes of Nam Tae Hee and Yusef Msakni and gave some opportunities to the younger members of his squad. Lekhwiya started the tie brightly, and could of took the lead on the sixth minute. However Alain Dioko’s one on one effort was smartly blocked by the Bunyodkor keeper. Chances where limited in the opening forty five minutes, despite Lekhwiya dominating possession but they lacked the killer instinct in the final third that their dominance merited.

The second half again seen plenty of Lekhwiya possession but neither side could find their way through. The only real chance of note fell to Bunyodkor 15 minutes from the break Eldor Shomurodov’s long distance effort was easily saved by Lacomte.

Lekhwiya will now face off against rivals El Jaish, the side that recently defeated them in the Qatar Cup in the round of sixteen matches of the AFC Champions League. These ties are set to kick-off in two weeks’ time.
