Lekhwiya took on Al Kharaitiyat at their home ground, the Abdullah bin Khalifa stadium this evening in the round 20 clash. The champions grounded out another important win in a one sided affair which saw them have 63% possession.

In the pre-match press conference Assistant head coach acknowledged the recent good form of Kharaitiyat and in particular their talisman Hassan Abdul Fattah, who was voted February player of the month.

“We got the crucial victory against Sadd and now it's up to us to win all matches and get the title. We know the teams that we have to play and we have to win all those matches…..We know that Kharaitiyat are in a good shape now. They won the best player and best coach of the month. So it will be very difficult for us.”

But in the end the gulf in clash was too much for the visitors – Kharaitiyat despite their in-form front man.

The Red Knights kept Kharaitiyat under wraps and managed to not allow the boys in blue a single shot on target.

Lekhwiya however were made to work for the win as they couldn’t break the deadlock until the second half.  Midfield metronome Karim Boudiaf supplied the pass to Soria who smashed in an effort from close range (55’).  The Qatari international scoring his 9th goal of the season for Lekhwiya.

After that the Thunders rallied but were kept at arm’s length as they shot from distance in the dying minutes of the game.

Lekhwiya showed their dominance with 7 chances to Kharaitiyat one and had 11 shots in total whilst the visitors had three with none on target.

Lekhwiya have now put a gap of 4 points between them and Sadd going into the last six round of the Qatar Stars League.

Head coach Laudrup will be happy with the points but slightly disappointed that his side could have scored a few more, especially as they had a high number of chances.

Kharaitiyat move down to 11th in the Qatar Stars League.
