Lekhwiya played out a frustrating 3-3 draw at home in front of their fans who hoped that tonight would see them lift the Qatar Stars League shield for the 4th time.

However some questionable goal keeping and strange decisions by officials made it a tough night for the home side.

Lekhwiya went into round 24 against second bottom side Al Shahania knowing that a win would once again make them QSL champs.  Instead Laudrup’s men were affected by the occasion and lost focus as they conceded early on when the referee pointed to the spot for what looked like a soft decision in the box.

Up stepped up Luciano Vazquez who dispatched a low shot into the bottom right corner, the keeper dived the wrong way as the visitors took the lead (23).

Yet just two minutes later Lekhwiya had evened things up as a Youssef Msakni tap gave the red knights something to build on.

Then the home side took the lead for the first time in the match as captain Luiz Martin struck a sweet volley from just outside the box (40).

Shahania’s top scorer Fahad Khalfan then pouched a goal from close range on the 45th minute as Lekhwiya keeper Claude Amin made a mess of the clearance.

Then in the second half the visitors took the lead once more when a controversial decision denied Lekhwiya a penalty as Shahania went up the other end and scored on the counter attack. Fahad Khalfan getting his second goal against the Red Knights (53’).

Things then went from bad to worse for Laudrup’s charges as his captain, Luiz Martin was sent off for a second bookable offence (70’).

This, however galvanized the Reds as they started to dominate the possession, Vladimir Weis worked his magic down the left wing, cut in and sent a low pass to Nam Tae-Hee who cleverly left it to Msakni who finished superbly with the inside of his foot to restore parity once again (90+2’).

That’s how it ended as Lekhwiya were made take just a single point and thereby failed to lift the QSL title this week.
