The QSL returned from the international break and didn’t disappoint with plenty of strong attacking play, combined with some inspirational moments in attack. Five International players in particular stood out for their teams, and delivered when it mattered this week in the QSL.

Poacher Bounjah crucial for Wolves title push
Al Sadd striker Bagdad Bounjah grabbed a brace and saved Al Sadd blushes with an 83rd minute equalizer in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Lekhwiya on Sunday evening. Bounjah is currently the leading scorer in the QSL with five goals in three games and looked a constant threat for his side against the Red Knights.

His brace typified his poacher style, with his first goal beating the offside trap and calmly sliding the ball past Lekhwiya keeper Amine Lecomte. Whilst his second saw Bounjah slide in on the backpost to give his side an unlikely point.

Nam the Man for Lekhwiya
South Korean international Nam Tae Hee delivered another typically assured performance in his sides 3-3 draw with Al Sadd. The diminutive midfielder had an assist and a goal in the match, and comfortably looked the best player on the pitch.

Nam was constantly mobile across midfield and attack and had a definitive say in his second and third goals of the evening. The South Korean man came up with a pinpoint accurate cross to find the head of Yusef Msakni just before the first half break. Whilst in the second half Nam came up with a sublime free kick which bamboozled Sadd keeper Saad Al Sheeb to give his side a 3-2 lead.

Whilst head coach Djamel Belmadi lamented the draw as two lost points, the demanding Algerian coach will certainly be happy by the efforts exhibited by Nam over the last few weeks.

Grigore impressive at both ends of the pitch for Al Sailiya
Romanian international defender Dragos Grigore made at impact at both ends of the pitch for his Al Sailiya side that drew 1-1 with reigning QSL champions Al Rayyan on Saturday evening.

With just six minutes on the clock the Grigore won a 50/50 ball and promptly hit a 30 yard screamer which found the back of the net. The early goal of the season contender was celebrated wildly by his team mates as the Peregrines took the unlikeliest of leads.

As the game progressed Al Sailiya went down to ten man, after Faouzi Aaish saw red for a rash tackle. With the odds against them, Sailiya and particularly Grigore stepped up to stop the relentless Al Rayyan attacks. Sami Trabelsi’s men eventually held out thanks in no small part to the efforts of the Romanian defender.

Mubele proving his worth for Al Ahli
D.R Congo international Firmin Mublele was at his brilliant best in his sides 1-1 draw with Al Wakrah. It’s Mubele’s second season with the Brigadiers and it certainly seems that he has now fully settled in the QSL.

Mubele’s pace was a constant threat for Ahli against a stubborn Al Wakrah backline. Indeed it was Al Wakrah who took the lead against the run of play from the penalty spot; however Mubele was on hand with ten minutes left to play to score a sublime overhead kick.

Exhibiting plenty of technique the D.R Congo man took advantage of a high ball in the penalty area and acrobatically slammed the ball into the net past Wakrah keeper Hassan Idriss. It was Mebele’s third goal of the season, and on this form Al Ahli may have trouble keeping hold of the attacker come the January transfer window.

Shahania may have the right man in Tiaïba
Sides who are promoted to the QSL traditionally struggle for goals. However this time around, Al Shahania may have a striker who can save them from the inevitable relegation dog fight.

Algerian attacker Mohamed Tiaïba grabbed his second goal of the season in the 2-2 draw with Umm Salal on Friday evening. Tiaïba was a constant threat for his side, and providing he can maintain his form could be a major asset for the Oryxes in their quest to beat the drop.
