Ahead of the round 15 match of the week between Umm Salal and Al Sadd, QSL online has decided to look at the previous clashes between these two sides.

Both sides have played each other a total 11 times in the QSL, with the majority of the results over the last five seasons favoring Al Sadd, the QSL’s most successful side.

In the 2010/2011 season, Al Sadd had the upper hand in the first half of the season match. The Wolves won 3-0 with Abdul Kader Keïta and Khalfan Ibrahim amongst the goals.  In the second half of the season Umm Salal grabbed all three points with a last-gasp effort from Mohammed Jeddo giving the Orange Fortress a 1-0 victory.

During the 2011/2012 season,  Sadd won both ties comprehensively. The first game of the season resulted in a 3-1 victory. Whilst the second tie of the year was a comfortable 4-1 win with Khalfan Ibrahim and South Korean defender Lee Jung-soo amongst the goals.

The 2012/2013 season had two tight games between the QSL rivals, however it was Al Sadd who still remained on top in both matches. The first game of the season seen Sadd register a 2-0 victory with goals from Spanish striker Raul and Qatari winger Hassan Al Haydoos. The second match of the season seen Sadd win 1-0 again with former Real Madrid striker Raul scoring for Sadd.

Umm Salal had gone into the 2013/2014 season on the back of four straight defeats against Al Sadd. They reversed their fortunes in spectacular fashion in the first match of the season. The Orange Fortress and the Wolves shared eight goals, with the tie ending 4-4. Salal also grabbed their first win in two seasons defeating their rivals 2-1. Goals from Victor Oliveria and Kabore ensured it was a season to remember for Umm Salal.

Sadd fought back in the 2014/2015 season with two comfortable wins over the season. The first tie was a 2-0 victory. Whilst the second tie was a comprehensive 4-0 win with a brace from Khalfan Ibrahim,  along with goals from Hassan Al Haydoos and Algerian midfielder Nadir Belhadj.

This years first match of the season, resulting in a exciting 2-2 draw. The match saw new Sadd signing Xavi score his first goal in the QSL, before Umm Salal struck back in the second half thanks to Qatari midfielder Nasser Khalfan.

It promises to be an entertaining, and open match when the two rivals meet on Sunday the 3rd of January at Al Ahli stadium, kick-off at 16:15pm.
