Jaish just have the edge going into Saturday evening clash.

Top of the table El Jaish take on an undefeated Al Rayyan side in the QSL match of the week for round four. QSL online has decided to look back at the previous matches between the sides to see who has the edge going into the Saturday evening match at Lekhwiya stadium.

Al Rayyan and El Jaish first played each other in the 2011/2012 QSL season. The first match between the sides produced a thrilling 4-4 draw. While the second leg match ending with El Jaish running out as 3-1 winners, the first ever victory of the soldiers over Al Rayyan.

Jaish continued their dominance in the first leg of the 2012/2013 season, narrowly defeating Al Rayyan 1-0. Whilst the second leg encounter saw the scores reversed, with the Lions getting the 1-0 victory.Both sides didn’t meet in the 2014/2015 season with Al Rayyan being relegated to the Qatar Gas League.

Their matches returned again last year during the 2015/2016 season. The first match saw Al Rayyan edge out their rivals 2-1, whilst El Jaish edged the second leg fixture by the same 2-1 scoreline.  Al Rayyan went on to lift the QSL falcon shield for the first time in 21 years.

Al Rayyan’s talismanic captain Rodrigo Tabata enjoys playing El Jaish and has registered 7 goals down the years against Sabri Lamouchi’s men. Overall it is El Jaish who just edge out Al Rayyan picking up four wins down the years over Al Rayyan’s three victories. Both sides have only drawn on one occasion.

The tie between the two powerhouses of Qatari football has been high scoring affairs down the years, with an average of 3.12 goals per game. El Jaish against just edge Al Rayyan in goals scored grabbing 13 goals to Al Rayyan’s 12 strikes in previous encounters.

Certainly promises to be an interesting clash when top of the table El Jaish entertain reigning QSL champions Al Rayyan in the match of the week for round 4.
