Red Knights have history on their side ahead of Saturday evening match.

Al Gharafa will take on Lekhwiya to conclude the second round of QSL action on Saturday evening.  Ahead of the match at Al Gharafa stadium, QSL online takes a look at the record of the sides over the last five seasons in our head to head feature.

Four time QSL champs Lekhwiya have the upper hand over the Cheetahs ahead of what will be the 13th encounter between the two QSL sides. Lekhwiya have won a total of eight times over the years, whilst Gharafa has managed only one victory. The remaining three games have ended in a draw.

The sides first met in the 2010/2011 season, after Lekhwiya was promoted from the Qatar Gas League.  Al Gharafa registered their only victory over the last five seasons in the first ever contest between the sides. Al Gharafa came away with a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Iraqi striker Younis Mahmoud and Brazillian attacker Clemerson.

It didn’t take long for The Red Knights to register their first victory over Al Gharafa, and a solitary goal from Lekhwiya captain Kareem Boudiaf was for all three points, during the second leg of the season.

The 2011/2012 season saw the first goalless draw between the sides, whilst Lekhwiya won the second leg encounter 2-0 with goals from Nam Tae Hee and Lassena Diaby.

Lekhwiya grabbed a 2-1 win in the first half of the 2012/2013 season. The second leg witnessed a 1-1 draw between the sides with Lekhwiya taking the lead through striker Sebastian Soria, before Gharafa found their way back into the clash with a Nene equalizer.

Lekhwiya did the double over their rivals during the 2013/2014 season with a 2-1 win in the first leg and a comprehensive 3-0 victory during the second leg. Al Gharafa star Vladimir Weiss was on the scoresheet for his former side.

Another season and two more wins for the Red Knights, over Al Gharafa. A Nam Tae Hee strike was enough to give Lekhwiya the win in the first leg, whilst Michael Laudrups side grabbed a 2-1 win in the second half of the season as Lekhwiya went on to secure a domestic double.

Finally the 2015/2016 season saw a first leg 1-1 draw, and an impressive 4-0 win for Lekhwiya with Tunisian striker Yuseff Msakni scoring a brace. Can Al Gharafa get back to winning ways and beat Lekhwiya for the first time in five seasons? Al Gharafa takes on Lekhwiya at Al Gharafa stadium on Saturday the 24th of September, KO 20:00pm.
