Quartet of goal scorers make the difference in the fifth round of QSL season
The fifth round of QSL action saw plenty of crucial goals, with two strikers and two defenders standing out and making it count for their respective sides.
Moroccan attacker Mouhcine Iajour had a hand in all three of his side’s goals as Al Khor breezed past Al Ahli, winning 3-1 on Thursday evening. On the sixth minute Iajour provided an inch perfect pass for partner Madson, who scored to give the Knights an early lead.
The former Al Ahli loanee then struck twice in four minutes to all but confirm the three points for Jean Fernandez’s side. Both goals exhibited a perfect first touch, and a composed finish, something that the side from the north of Qatar had been lacking in recent years. Now after grabbing his second and third goals of the season Iajour will be hoping he can make an impact when Al Khor take on table topping Al Khor in the sixth round of QSL action.
Another striker who fired his side to glory was attacker Romarinho, who bagged a hat-trick to help El Jaish defeat Umm Salal 4-2. The soldiers man from Brazil put in yet another eye catching performance as Sabri Lamouchi’s side professionally brushed aside Umm Salal.
Romarinho had a hand in all four goals, setting up Captain Seidou Keita for the opener. Whilst the mercurial Brazilian completed his hat-trick in on the sixtieth minute with a Bullet header to all but secure all three points.
Al Sadd defender Abdulkarim Hassan has been in fantastic goal scoring form as of late, and the Qatar international scored a goal of real quality to give his side a 3-2 lead against Al Gharafa on Saturday evening. With just minutes left in the first half, Hassan made a powerful run putting the ball through an Al Gharafa’s defenders legs before smashing the ball into the far corner.
The strike wasn’t enough for Al Sadd to take all three points, as Al Gharafa defender Rashid Sumaila struck late to give the Cheetah’s a share of the spoils. The Ghanian defender has been a real calming influence for the Cheetahs since signing on transfer deadline day. On only his second appearance with the club he rose up to head in a last gasp equalizer, much to the delight of head coach Pedro Caixinia.
Sumailia will be hoping that Al Gharafa can continue their upturn in fortunes when they face bottom of the table Al Wakrah on Thursday the 3rd of November.
