Former Chelsea legend and now full-time coach Gianfranco Zola arrived into Doha last Saturday morning to try and finalise a deal with Al Arabi Sports Club.

If everything goes well, the Italian will assume responsibility of the squad’s technical staff, succeeding the Uruguayan Daniel Carreño who left the Reds to become the head coach of the Qatar men’s national team.

The club’s General Secretary, Mr Ahmed Al Emadi and Head of Football, Mr Ali Al-Sulaiti welcomed the Italian Head Coach to the club for the talks.

It is anticipated that the club and the 49 year old coach will reach an agreement and then a press conference will be held to introduce Zola as the new head coach to the local media.

Zola was known for his creative and attacking prowess and since becoming a coach he has taken charge of English Premier League side West Ham United, the Italy U16 squad, Watford F.C., and Cagliari.
