Four Qatar Stars League (QSL) players will join their national teams to participate in the African Cup of Nations 2017 (CAN 2017) that will be held in Gabon from 14 January to 5 February 2017.
All four players will miss their QSL club fixtures in the league to join their national team preparations and training camps of their representative countries.
The four players are Al Sadd’s Algerian player, Baghdad Boundjah, Lekhwiya’s Moroccan player, Youssef Al Arabi, Al Ahli’s Congolese player, Ndombe Mubele, and Lekhwiya’s Tunisian player, Youssef Mesakny.
Baghdad Boundjah (Algeria)
Algerian National Team head coach, the Belgian George Lekinz, gave Al Sadd’s striker Baghdad Boundjah the call up to participate in the CAN 2017. Boundjah left Doha last Sunday to join the training camp for the Algerian National Team in preparations for the Group B fixtures with Tunisia, Senegal and Zimbabwe. Boundjah is considered one of the most prominent strikers in the QSL, scoring 15 goals for Al Sadd in the first 13 rounds of the 2016/17 season.
Youssef Al Arabi (Moroccan)
Lekhwiya’s Youssef Al Arabi is looking forward to participating with his national team in the CAN 2017 and playing under the Moroccan National Team head coach, the Frenchman Hervey Reinad. Morocco is in Group C alongside Congo DR, Togo and Ivory Coast. Al Arabi recently joined the national team training camp in UAE. Lekhwiya will likely miss this lethal striker who has been on top form so far in this QSL season with 17 goals in 13 games.
Ndome Mubele (Congo)
Al Ahli Sports Club will miss one of their key goal scoring machines as their Congolese striker Ndome Mubele heads out to Gabon to take part in Group C of the CAN 2017. Mubele is one of Al Ahli’s key players, netting eight goals so far this QSL campaign.
Youssef Mesakny (Tunisia)
The Tunisian international and Lekhwiya midfielder, Youssef Mesakny, will participate with the Tunisian National Team in the CAN 2017 after receiving the call up from his national team coach, the Pole Henryk Kasperczak.
Mesakny is considered one of the best foreign players in the QSL, having displayed some stunning potential and skill with his QSL club side Lekhwiya this season. Despite his absence during most of this seasons fixtures due to injury, he still managed to score five goals for Lekhwiya.
